Westwind Pediatric Clinic is a highly personalized practice serving the health care needs of patients from birth to young adults (21 years) in El Paso. Our small size allows us to take the time to get to know our patients and their families, a key to our high-quality health care.
Westwind Pediatric Clinic’s goal is to be an integral part of the El Paso community in which we serve, an important asset that contributes to the welfare of the community’s families. Dr. Salloum earned his medical degree from Damascus University, one of the most prestigious and competitive medical schools in the Middle East. He pursued advanced training in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology in France, and later did a mini-fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care at The University of Texas in San Antonio.
After moving to El Paso in 1992, Dr. Salloum completed his pediatric residency at Texas Tech University, where he was named Resident of the Year. He has since been honored multiple times as Faculty of the Year for his contributions to medical education and patient care.
He is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and also holds board certification in Obesity Medicine. He currently serves as Chairman of Pediatrics at Las Palmas Medical Center and is President of Westwind Pediatric Clinics. From 2020 to 2022, he served as President of the El Paso County Medical Society.
Dr. Salloum is a Professor at both Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and the Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is also a permanent member of the organizing committee for the WADI Middle East Conference, contributing to international dialogue in pediatric healthcare.
An active member of the Texas Medical Association and several hospital committees, Dr. Salloum is deeply involved in both local and regional healthcare leadership.
He provides comprehensive care for children from newborns through adolescence, with special clinical interests in ADHD, pediatric dermatology, obesity, and chronic disease management. Known for his dedication, Dr. Salloum is available to his patients every day, including weekends and holidays, and is widely respected for his responsiveness and accessibility.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Salloum enjoys spending time with his family, gardening, and writing.
Dr. Maha Saadeh Salloum, is a board-certified pediatrician with over 20 years of experience caring for children and families. She earned her medical degree from the School of Medicine in Syria and completed her pediatric residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso, Texas.
Dr. Salloum began her career as a pediatric faculty member at Texas Tech University and later joined Westwind Pediatric Clinic, where she continued her role as a clinical faculty member. She supervises medical students from the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine and residents in the Family Medicine program at Texas Tech/THOP, and serves as a preceptor for students at Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine. Currently, she serves as Chairman of Pediatrics at the Hospital of Providence Transmountain, leading a team dedicated to delivering high-quality, family-centered pediatric care.
Beyond her professional work, Dr. Salloum is deeply involved in her community. She serves as President of the Syrian Lebanese American Ladies Club in El Paso, is an active member of her church’s ladies society, and participates enthusiastically in cultural and traditional events. Her dedication to mentoring future physicians, promoting child health, and preserving her cultural heritage reflects her commitment to both her profession and her community.
Dr. Christine Smith was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana. She attended college at LSU Baton Rouge earning a BS in Zoology in 1983. She then graduated with a medical degree from LSUMC in Shreveport in 1987. She completed her pediatric internship and residency there in 1990.
After moving to El Paso in 1993, Dr. Smith worked part time while raising four children. She worked for Texas Tech University Medical Center in the newborn nursery and in various outpatient clinics including mobile school clinics from 2000- 2009. She also served on the interview committee for Paul Foster School of Medicine and for their pediatric residency program from 2009 - 2014. As an assistant professor of pediatrics, Dr. Smith also lectured third year medical students at PFSOM on general pediatrics. Board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics since 1990, Dr. Smith has worked at Westwind Pediatric Clinic since 2014. Outside of clinic and hospital work, Dr. Smith served on the board of House of Hope (now Guiding Star), a local crisis pregnancy center, from 2012 to 2019. Dr. Smith currently provides pediatric medical care for children from newborn to 21 years of age and also teaches medical students, residents, physician assistant students, and nurse practitioner students by serving as a pediatric preceptor.
Dr. Smith has 4 grandchildren now, including two grandsons and a set of identical twin girls. She enjoys spending time with them and her grown children as well as traveling to the Rocky Mountains.
Dr. Marisol Valdés is dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality care for children of all ages, from newborns to adolescents.
She earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from Universidad La Salle in Mexico City and completed her Pediatric Residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso, Texas. As part of her medical training, she completed one year of social service in an indigenous community in Chiapas, Mexico, where she gained valuable experience in delivering care with cultural sensitivity and deep compassion.
Dr. Valdés is Board Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a proud member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Fluent in both English and Spanish, with exceptional Spanish, Dr. Valdés is able to connect with families from diverse backgrounds, ensuring that every parent feels understood and every child receives personalized care.
Her commitment is to foster a welcoming and supportive environment where families feel confident, informed, and empowered in their child’s healthcare journey.
Erica Bostic is a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner specializing in primary care. A native El Pasoan, she has been a valued provider at Westwind Pediatrics since 2016.
Before earning her master’s degree from the University of Texas at El Paso, Erica spent eight years as a registered nurse in the neonatal intensive care unit. She has always been passionate about working with children and is dedicated to empowering families through education and compassionate care.
Outside of the clinic, Erica enjoys cooking and spending time with her husband and their two children, who keep the family happily busy with their active schedules.
Briana Rey Kolstad is a board-certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, credentialed by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing with a focus in Pediatric Primary Care from the University of Texas at El Paso, where she also completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She holds an additional Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio.
With over six years of experience caring for critically ill newborns in the NICU, and two additional years in the PICU, Emergency Department, PACU, and general pediatrics, Briana brings a strong clinical foundation and broad, hands-on experience to her role.
She is deeply committed to making each visit a meaningful experience, where children feel comfortable, families feel heard, and care is always individualized. Fluent in both English and Spanish, Briana values connection, communication, and trust. Her goal is to empower families with the support and education they need to help their children thrive.
Alyssa Moreno is a board-certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, credentialed by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB). She earned her Master of Science in Nursing with a focus in pediatric primary care from the University of Texas at El Paso.
Before becoming a nurse practitioner, Alyssa spent over nine years caring for critically ill newborns as a registered nurse in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) across a range of hospital settings. This experience not only shaped her clinical foundation but also deepened her compassion for families navigating complex health challenges.
Today, Alyssa is dedicated to delivering thoughtful, preventive care with a focus on improving each child’s quality of life. She values building strong, trusting relationships with families and strives to support their well-being through every stage of development.
Vanessa Frietze is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with a lifelong passion for caring for children.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at El Paso in 2009 and her Master of Science in Nursing from Texas Tech University in 2017. Before becoming a PNP, Vanessa worked as a NICU nurse for 9.5 years, where she developed a deep commitment to supporting both patients and families. She believes in partnering with families to provide evidence-based, compassionate care that supports the health and development of every child.
In her free time, Vanessa enjoys spending time with her husband and children and creating custom t-shirt quilts.
